Solving Cultural Chaos, Part 3

Who will lead?

Even with good intentions, all of the suggestions in the world will not save us unless someone steps up to lead. Earlier we noted that God's most ancient directives concerning a functional society centered not on kings, presidents, or even the church; it centered on the family. Within that most foundational unit, God has placed an order of authority and function.

I Corinthians 11:3 (NIV)

"But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God."

In this closing section we will examine the two most powerful influences within any culture. When these two groups prioritize a righteous submission to the God-given roles within the home, even cultural chaos can be solved.

1. Men

1 Timothy 3:4 (NIV)

"He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect."

The passage above was written to describe the criteria of a truly spiritual man, a man worthy of God's blessing in the home and in the church.

Notice the next verse:

1 Timothy 3:5 (NIV)

"... for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will hecarefor God's church?"

The goal of every man should be a life that has been managed so well he is even qualified to oversee the work of the Lord's church. When this happens, the family and the church will thrive. When it does not, the family and the church will suffer. I ask you, are the family and the church thriving or suffering today?

2. The Woman

Titus 2:3-5 (NIV)

"... teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."

In Titus 2:5, God places Christian women on the front lines of this battle for righteousness. In that passage, the Holy Spirit gives this assignment: Be "keepers at home," (KJV) "workers at home," (ASV) "busy at home," (NIV) or to "take care of their homes." (NLT) He then concludes by pointing to the vital importance of their work "that the word of God be not blasphemed." (KJV)

Question: Would you say the American culture typically exalts or blasphemes the Word of God?

It's time to invest in a full-time domestic guardian. The best home security system is the one God commands in Scripture. Titus 2:5 and 1 Timothy 5:14 clearly indicate that God desires for Christian women to make a career out of preparing and protecting the home. It is their great commission!

Conclusion

From the very beginning, God has always placed His favor upon righteous families. One may ask, "What can we do to restore God's favor to America?" The answer is ancient and it is obvious - restore the righteousness of the family!

We created this cultural chaos and it is our job to fix it. America is dying for a new approach. Christians can help. But do we have the patience? Do we have the discipline? Do we have the necessary willpower to make the hard choices? Will we embrace God's ancient plan?

His generational approach will work! Will we?
